Here's a small report from Japan. We've been here for 6 days. The first days we spent in Osaka and Kyoto, and today we travelled to Tokyo by Shinkansen (bullet train).
It's been 6 years since I travelled here with Bernt for the first time. It's just as amazing this time, but now I can actually pick up a few words here and there. Seems that reading James Clavell's "Shogun" and "Gaijin" might have had an effect. At least I can now say "Wakarimasen", meaning "I don't understand". I learned that from Pilot Blackthorne in Shogun.
We've spent our days sightseeing and shopping. I don't think Japan is very expensive. But I come from one of the most expensive countries in the world, so anything is cheap in comparison. Both clothing, items and food is relatively inexpensive, which is a very nice surprise.
As for sightseeing, we've visited Himeji-jo, Kyomisura, Kinkako-ji and different parts of down town Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. Bernt has dragged Henrik and me to various restaurants to eat. The best experience was eating Teriyaki at the Castle restaurant at the New Otani Hotel in Osaka, with an evening at Tengu at Kyubashi as a less expensive runner up.
The best surprise so far was arriving at our hotel in Osaka. I turned 30 on March 30, which was the day we arrived in Osaka. The boys riled me for getting old. We got our hotel room pretty late. I was tired after having been travelling for 18 hours. We got our room, and I dropped my bag to go to the bath room. There, on the bath counter, was a bouquet of 15 long stemmed roses:

-Have I mentioned how much I love my husband?
